Sony PSP 2 Graphics Processor Revealed?

A British company may have won the contract to design and build the next-generation graphics processor for the PSP2. Imagination Technologies Group announced in a press release this week that the company has signed a license agreement with a new partner, “a major consumer electronics company.” Industry sources say that the partner is almost certainly Sony, and that the SGX55x graphics chip will be used in the upcoming PSP2. The secrecy on the part of Imagination Technologies makes sense, because Sony is understandably unwilling to announce its plans for a PSP successor just yet. Imagination’s PowerVR MBX chip is already being used in the Apple iPhone, so Sony finds itself in good company with this manufacturer.

8 Mega Pixel Samsung i8510 Primera surfaces…Has it all!

image

8 MP Samsung i8510 Primera surfaces, has it all but the kitchen sink…

Just when you thought they can hardly squeeze much more features in a single mobile phone here come Samsung to disprove that. The Samsung i8510 Primera is the next multimedia powerhouse that is to be announced in the nearest future. It will be a Symbian-powered smartphone, sporting more features than any other handset we have ever seen (yeah – more than Nokia N96, too).

Coming with a design inspired by the Samsung U900 Soul and the Samsung G810 the Samsung i8510 Primera will come with an 8 megapixel auto focus camera. We wonder if the rumors that Samsung are manufacturing the camera sensor of the Sony Ericsson C905 are correct and the Primera will feature the same unit. There is a LED flash on the Samsung i8510, which is a pity as we would have really preferred a xenon one.

Other exiting features of the Samsung i8510 include Wi-Fi and GPS, which also comes with assisted-GPS functionality for better cold start performance of the navigation services. The display of the Primera will be a 2.8-inch QVGA one and version of the Symbian utilized is 9.3 with S60 UI. The amount of RAM memory is 128 MB and there will be a dedicated 3D graphics accelerator. Unfortunately there is no information regarding the CPU used in the multimedia monster.

Much like the Samsung i900 Omnia and the Apple iPhone there will be an 8GB and a 16GB version of the i8510 Primera. There will also be a microSD card slot for expanding it and improving the connectivity. Other connectivity options include USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0. The network data transfers are done through 3G with HSDPA support.

For the music lovers Samsung i8510 will offer a 3.5mm standard audio jack which is also capable of transferring surround 5.1 sound (unprecedented yet on a mobile phone). The Primera will also be capable of recording slow-motion videos in QVGA resolution at 120 fps which matches the capabilities of the LG KU990 Viewty and KF750 Secret. Another common thing with these two LG devices is the DivX-playing capabilities of the Samsung.

Samsung i8510 will be powered by a 1200 mAh battery and will measure 106.5 × 54 × 17mm which is close to Samsung’s previous Symbian-powered flagship – the G810. The official announcement of this multimedia monster is expected to come somewhere around the middle of August and the price tag is rumored to be about 780 euro.

Gmail on Mobile … As easy as SMS

For all of those people out there who cant find time to switch on their Tablet PCs can now check there mails on Phone … Oops I think u already know how to check your email from Phone’s Browser ? But hey … We got something new for you … Shockpill is committed to bring the new stuff for its readers ! The best thing about Gmail is that it allows you pop3 access (And this is what made me fall for Gmail cause I was originally a windows live fan, but when I noticed that both Windows Live and Yahoo asks for cash to offer this service, I kicked them in butts and switched to Google) With pop3 access you can not only set up your Gmail on email clients like Eudora , Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook but you can also set up your Gmail on any mobile phone.

Almost all the handsets I’ve come across have the option of email under the messages settings. For my Sony Ericsson P990i it was hell of an easy setup. I get all my emails just like an SMS and its cheap too…! Get a ding dong bell when a new mail is received and I have the option of reading the full email but downloading 100% manually or letting it do automatically !

We have published a couple settings for iPhone , P990 and Nokia S60 phones. Read the rest of the Post for settings. Sorry for PSP readers, The only way to check your email from PSP is from your PSP browser. Read the full post to see more details and screen shots.

P.S. Google also released its Gmail App for cell phones but i personally didn’t liked it due to the heck of turning on the application to check the email . Though the look and feel of the application is just like checking email on PC but I prefer to get my emails more like an SMS. If you like to use Gmail app you can visit www.gmail.com/app from your phones browser to download your mobile’s compatible application.

Apple releases the iPhone SDK!!!

Close window

Well, there you have it - Apple has made public the iPhone SDK and now developers of all walks of life can hop on and develop native applications for one of the most hyped mobile phones currently. Not so fast though, as while the developing may begin now, all those apps will be pushed to customers no earlier than late June 2008.

The SDK tools and a bunch of tutorials are already available at Apple’s developer website. For those of you that have their hands itching - you might just download all the available stuff and have a go for free. You would have all the needed tools and you can run and test your applications on an iPhone simulator.

Developers will have access to the same “Cocoa Touch” framework and all other APIs used by Apple for iPhone software development. Features include hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, location-enabled apps and full access to all the media capabilities of the iPhone. The 3-axis accelerometer is also under your command.

However if you wish to get serious, you might as well join the iPhone Developer Program for a total of USD 99 per year. For that kind of money you would get to test your apps on actual iPhones, you would receive free technical support and you will be able to distribute your apps to the iPhone users around the world once the Apple distribution system is up.

iPhone and iPod touch will go $100 price drop real soon.

This one’s still just a bunch of whispers and coincidences, but we’ve been hearing that Apple may lower prices on the iPhone and iPod touch in the next few months and drop the 8GB touch. Word is that falling flash prices coupled with the desire to introduce the 3G iPhone at an attractive price point will lead to the 16GB iPhone falling to $399, along with similar touch price drops: 16GB for $299 and 32GB for $399. It’s not clear what’ll happen to the 8GB iPhone, but everyone seems to agree that the 8GB touch is on the way out — we actually think a $199 8GB touch would fly off shelves, but that’s probably cutting margins razor-thin. We’ll see when we see — and if flash prices are really falling that fast, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to iPod nano pricing as well.
