There’s been a lot of talk surrounding a movie adaptation of the brilliant Metal Gear Solid videogame franchise for a long time. Well, it seems like Sony is finally giving it the go-ahead. Sony chair Yair Landau confirmed it is in the works. The film will be produced by Michael De Luca, who was executive producer on films such as Boogie Nights, Magnolia, American History X, Blow, among others. The key element here is that Hideo Kojima, creator and director of the Metal Gear franchhise, will be on as executive producer. I believe that was a condition of him allowing for a film adaptaion of the franchise, but if he wasn’t on board, it would have been a terrible mistake. It is a videogame movie, but I have high hopes that they’ll do this one right… mostly because they have to but also because the games are already incredibly cinematic with great stories.
I guess the big question now is who will play Solid Snake? Some personally think Eric Bana would be fantastic. Check out this photo of him in Troy here. David Hayter, who is the voice of Snake in the video games, is apparently who Kojima wants as Snake. I think Hayter will eventually get the role mostly because the voice of Snake is so recognizable. If you take a look at this photo, Hayter does look an awful lot like Snake with that beard. Now all he needs is the mullet.
