Mirror’s Edge PC to use PhysX effects

According to TechReport, Folks with newer Nvidia cards will get a treat if they grab Mirror’s Edge for the PC next year. Nvidia has revealed that the PC flavor of DICE’s free-running action game will support PhysX hardware acceleration. All you’ll need is a GeForce 8 or better graphics card, and you’ll be the envy of your console-using friends (you know, the ones who’ve already been playing the game for a week and counting). Here’s how Nvidia describes the PhysX enhancements: “With the NVIDIA PhysX physics engine, the world of Mirror’s Edge comes to life with real affects [sic] of wind, weapons impact, and in-game movements. Every-day objects within the game become part of the overall experience. Cloth, flags, and banners can now impact weapons and players; ground fog interacts with the player’s footsteps; explosions fill the air with smoke and debris; and weapon impacts are enhanced with interactive particles.” Watch the PhysX goodies in action in full post:

No Halo Wars for PC gamers

Halo Wars will never make the journey from console to PC, according to the game’s lead developer. We spoke to Ensemble’s Graeme Devine at a Microsoft press event last week, and enquired about the possibility of a port in the near future:

Zero. Never. I’m going to go on the record and say never ever! Microsoft may go and announce it, but I’ll say never.

Devine went on to stress that the forthcoming RTS has been designed with console gaming in mind, and that this where the game will stay.

Street Fighter IV Dated

Finally, a definite release date for the console versions of Street Fighter 4 has been announced. It’s coming out in North America on February 17, 2009 and in Europe three days later.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be available on that day; a PC version is in the works and will be released at a later time following Capcom’s policy of delaying PC games to combat piracy.

Latest in the long running series, the game will feature a rather large roster including both old characters and newcomers alike. It is already available in Japanese arcades.

Man Swaps Garbage Filled 360 For Cash

Wal-Mart has long been known for its liberal return policy, but one Xbox 360 owner took it too far. Probably wondering exactly what to do with the discarded chassis of his Xbox 360, presumably following a chromed out shell installation, the owner capitalized on a lazy returns department and walked away with cash, leaving his refuse in Wal-Mart’s hands. Looks like he’s a med school drop out or something, as the eviscerated console came stuffed with a used copy of Comprehensive Medical Assisting and some random cables. It’s all terribly upsetting, the kind of deplorable behavior you wouldn’t wish upon your least-liked local Supercenter employee. I wonder what would he have said if they opened the box.
