Nintendo DS software rates your looks and suggests repairs

As if the hyper-beauty-conscious women of Japan didn’t have enough societal pressure, now computers are getting in on the practice of judging beauty. In a clever promotional tie-up with cosmetics giant Shiseido, game maker Nintendo plans to release a new piece of software in November for the Nintendo DS called Project Beauty.

After scanning your face into the software, the program uses a preset list of parameters to tell you if your face is cool, active, cute or feminine. The software will then offer make-up tips designed to improve your appearance (at least in the eyes of the marketing bigwigs at Shiseido). If this wasn’t so typically cute-in-an-odd-Japanese-way, we might have to call this software the scariest computer program most likely to lead to a world of Stepford Wives we’ve ever seen.

Wanted to Curve Bullets on Consoles

Posted by Usman on July 22, 2008

Wanted

What’s next for GRIN once they’re done with Bionic Commando? A videogame adaption of the film Wanted is in the Swedish developer’s future.

The film, itself an adaption of a comic series, tells the story of a group of super assassins and their recruitment of a young slacker. The game will pick up where the movie ends, continuing the adventures of Wesley Gibson, while expanding on the intricate mythology of the film.

Gameplay will be in the third-person, with special moves — like “curving bullets” and “assassin time” — coming straight out of the film. They also a promise an extensive cover mechanic, so it won’t be just about running and gunning.

The Wanted game is set to hit consoles and PC later this year.

New wireless Guitar Hero controller for the Wii spotted!

New wireless Guitar Hero controller for the Wii spotted
Some guy from Michigan spotted this sweet looking guitar at his local Wal-Mart so he snapped a pic. It’s a mysterious new controller for Guitar Hero for the Wii called the Rage. It may or may not be all the Rage.

No one seems to know anything about it and there’s nothing on Google either, which seems a bit odd since it looks so sweet and all. According to the box, it’s super realistic and this baby even has light-up LEDs on the fretboard. The $54.78 price tag isn’t all that awesome, but it’s different if you’re looking for a new fake guitar.

ASUS Eee Stick motion controller brings Wii to the Eee

Posted by Usman on June 12, 2008

ASUS seems to be bringing a lot of new toys out to play at Computex, but we’re suddenly most intrigued by the Eee Stick, a pair of motion-sensing game controllers that looks like nothing more than a pair of Wii nunchuks. We’re hearing that the left nunchuck can also work as a 3D mouse, but it’ll be interesting to see if ASUS plans to actually pitch the $70 set to game developers, or if it’s just another gimmicky controller that’ll inevitably get dumped for the comforts of WASD. Gameplay video after the break.
