Samsung claims world’s slimmest 8MP cellphone.

Samsung 8MP CMOS camera module claims to be world’s slimmest

If you like one of those who frequently use your mobile phone for taking photos, things just got a little clearer. Samsung recently unveiled what they claim is the world’s thinnest 8MP CMOS designed for use with cellphones.

The device measures just 28mm × 15.3mm × 8.5mm, and the small size is not all. Like many digital cameras, the little photo-taking module features face-detection, anti-shake, ISO 1600 sensitivity and can even detect and automatically snap a photo when it recognizes a smile.

Fortunately this isn’t just some hyped technology that Samsung is flaunting for years down the road. The company says the new slim 8MP CMOS should be available for mobile phones yet in the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.

New wireless Guitar Hero controller for the Wii spotted!

Posted by Usman on July 20, 2008

New wireless Guitar Hero controller for the Wii spotted
Some guy from Michigan spotted this sweet looking guitar at his local Wal-Mart so he snapped a pic. It’s a mysterious new controller for Guitar Hero for the Wii called the Rage. It may or may not be all the Rage.

No one seems to know anything about it and there’s nothing on Google either, which seems a bit odd since it looks so sweet and all. According to the box, it’s super realistic and this baby even has light-up LEDs on the fretboard. The $54.78 price tag isn’t all that awesome, but it’s different if you’re looking for a new fake guitar.

Who’s number one again? The PSP is!

Posted by Usman on July 20, 2008

Can anyone ever be sick of good news? Maybe you guys are tired of hearing how well our beloved handheld is doing in Japan. But we doubt Sony minds the good news, and neither do we. However, we do mind coming up with a new headline for the same good news every single week. Maybe you guys can give us some suggestions in comments …
Week of June 30th-July 6th, 2008:

  • PSP - 56,998 (559)
  • Nintendo DS - 48,540 (1,085)
  • Wii - 41,768 (2,757)
  • PlayStation 3 - 12,458 (1,901)
  • PlayStation 2 - 10,405 (1,363)
  • Xbox 360 - 3,807 (969)

The PSP outsold itself from last week, selling 559 more units. Its big brother, the PlayStation 3, didn’t fare so well — sales fell by almost 2,000 units.

Black iPhone Custom

Posted by Usman on July 18, 2008

iphone-custom-1.jpg

No, that’s not the elusive 3G iPhone. And no, it’s not a paint job either. Knight Creations’ Black iPhone Custom ($849) is a 16GB iPhone that has been upgraded with black replacement parts, including an anodized aluminum back and TiAlN-treated Apple logo and front bezel. If you just want to give your iPhone a new life, the iPhone Custom service ($299) lets you send it in and get the new armor installed for a lot cheaper. It took about a week from the time we sent our test iPhone in until the time our upgraded Darth phone arrived at Uncrate HQ. The fit and finish is nothing short of spectacular. While it’s tough to make the iPhone actually look better than Mr. Jobs intended, Knight Creations has pulled it off. Also, the beauty of the black-out service is that if your iPhone is a bit scuffed up, the replacement parts make it look absolutely new again. Also offered is a black iPod Nano ($99 yours/$329 new) and a black iPod Touch ($129 yours/$539 new).

Samsung Releases 10MP Camera with Phone Built In…

Posted by Usman on July 17, 2008

Samsung has been at the forefront of providing large picture quality with their camera phones, and the SCH-B6000 is not an exception.

Samsung is doing another first with releasing a 10 megapixel camera phone. With this new phone they have made it slight lighter and slightly thinner than their previously released 7 megapixel phone, but still managed to add more megapixels with camera features that rival other 10 megapixel cameras.

There is also a TV out jack on this camera phone to show still or motion pictures on a television, as well as a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting function built in to connect. The SCH-B6000 utilizes Bluetooth technology and supports the AnyCall band for providers.

Powerstick

Posted by Usman on July 16, 2008

image

Wouldn’t it be great to have an extra portable power source for your gadgets that didn’t take up much space and was easy to charge? The Powerstick ($70) is a thumb drive-sized accessory that charges via the built-in USB connector and can provide extra juice for lots of different devices, including most cell phones, iPods, and others that charge via mini-USB. A simple fuel gauge graphic lets you know how the charging is going and how much power you have left. Genius.

Apple App Store… iTunes update 7.7

Posted by Usman on July 14, 2008

image

With less than a day to go before the 3G iPhone hits the sweaty palms of fanboys in the U.S., Apple has launched its App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Filled to the digital brim with over 500 native applications (Free-$10), you can find software in nearly 20 different categories, including an official AIM app (finally!), a new Remote app from Apple that lets you control iTunes and Apple TV, tons of surprisingly great looking games, and apps for social-obsessives (Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter). You can download applications directly on your iPhone from anywhere or buy them through iTunes and then sync up. Old iPhone owners just need to wait on the iPhone 2.0 software update. Or not.
