F.E.A.R 2 Pretty close getting banned in Australia

Fear 2 Banned AustraliaSurprise, Australia! A game featuring horror elements and a bit of the ol’ tomato sauce has been “refused classification” in Australia, which is as good as a ban.

Know what’s so maddening, both as an Australian and a fan of common sense? It’s not the fact the country lacks an R18+ rating. That issues been argued to death. No, it’s the inconsistency. Silent Hill, and now this, get the chop because (presumably in this case, since we don’t know exactly why) they’re violent horror games. And yet Gears of War 2 gets the OK when you are at times literally swimming in blood.

Bethesda Announces Fallout 3 Mod Tools, DLC

Fallout 3Bethesda plans next month to make available user content creation tools for its open-world RPG Fallout 3, with paid downloadable content for PC and Xbox 360 users coming in January.

The official editor is entitled G.E.C.K., or Garden of Eden Creation Kit. It will be offered free to PC players.

Even as recently as the month before Fallout 3’s release, the fate of its mod tools were in question, with marketing VP Pete Hines claiming that mods were “not on the schedule,” because “it takes a lot of time and effort.”

The new single-player DLC, on the other hand, has long been promised ahead of the game’s release, and is exclusive to the PC and Xbox 360 platforms; on PC, it will be distributed through Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live platform, which is integrated into the game.

Eidos Trying to Delay Negative Tomb Raider: Underworld Reviews

Tomb Raider Underworld

Tomb Raider: Underworld hit stores this week, and in an effort to craft a high early ranking on Metacritic, Eidos has tasked a PR firm to try and convince publications to hold off on their reviews if the scores are below a certain threshold (via Shacknews).

The story first broke when GameSpot U.K. journalist Guy Cocker posted on Twitter that he received a call from Eidos’ PR firm, saying that if Underworld was going to get a score below 8.0, they wanted the review delayed until Monday — three days after the game’s release on Friday. Videogamer247 then contacted the U.K. PR firm, Barrington Harvey, which confirmed they were indeed calling publications to try and quell negative reviews.
